When a celebrity woman wears ethnic braided styles, they are often said to be sporting a bold edgy look!
It’s always interesting to hear these descriptors given how common braids are in urban communities and among African and African American households. Perhaps the same could be said of those who wear braided styles in corporate and business settings.
However, it’s been quite some time since ethnic braids and dreds were considered anarchist & anti-esablishment symbols of expression. Now, most realize, people wear them simply for style, convenience and fashion. Nothing more. Nothing less.
More likely, these days, when people who are not “ethnic” sport them, they evoke lots of conversations. Katy Perry and Kylie Jenner’s braids both sparked controversy and commentary in recent months.
