This Monday’s MTV Video Music Awards held at Prudential Center in New Jersey featured a few creative braided styles and hailed up braids and natural styles.
From R&B phenom H.E.R. donning box braids on the red carpet to Normani‘s flat twisted hair during her on-stage performance of “Motivation” to music icon Missy Elliott‘s grey Goddess braids during her 7-minute medley, braids were spotlighted well!
Lizzo’s back up dancers wore purple cornrows and Afro wigs too!
A wonderful memorable moment for both Lizzo and Elliott’s dancers is that that both pulled off their respective weaves during the performance.
Elliott’s dancers tore theirs off at the begging of the set to reveal faux bald heads underneath their halo braided purple wigs.

It was a virtual unintended homage “Bye Wig” party (reference to a no weave/wig party Real Housewives of Atlanta star Nene Leakes hosted on that BravoTV show)
I dug Lizzo’s perfomance which was also a tribute to Prince’s iconic cloud jumpsuit from the music video for his song “Raspberry Beret” and a yellow jumpsuit with the butt cheeks cutout.
