Blue Ivy Sports Cornrows and Beads in Mom Beyonce’s Maternity Portraits

The world was abuzz with news about Beyonce’s twin pregnancy this week.  The mega pop star released a set of maternity portraits with the news and featured among them was her daughter Blue Ivy Carter!

And what hairstyle topped her pretty princesses head?

Cornrows with beads at the end. The style is a signature 1970s , but the look is also a cultural mainstay for black children around the world.  The adornment of colorful beads on the ends of each individual plaited braid is funky and fun. The cornrow (or canerow as they say in the Caribbean) is the ultimate protective style for textured domes of African children across the diaspora. When installed, they keep the hair coiffed and neat looking. They are great for school because they require little maintenance. Just rise and brush and go!

She looks absolutely majestic! And of course, her baby hair is styled and poppin’.
